Squirrel pet ??????

i have had excelent luck with keeping squirrels previously, have one now,a male i want to get him 'fixed' before he gets mean at what age or stage of development should this be done?,and ALL male squirrels get mean otherwise. any prevenitave medican i should give him. he is kept in a large cage in our living room. house is paid for squirrel is ours we live as we please.-------- i do not recomend squirrelsfor pets unlless you are knowledgeable about them BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!--help wisemom!!!!!Squirrel pet ??????
You probably need permits. You say you live as you please, but if you are caught with them you can be fined and the animals will be seized. Just to let you know.

Neutering him may be tricky. Look for a vet that has lots of experience with small rodents. He should be snipped before he is sexually mature, probably around 2 or 3 months.

It might be better to let him live wild. My friends feed the squirrles that come into the yard and they will come right up to her for a pet and a nut. Maybe you should consider that instead of cages.Squirrel pet ??????
squirrels are not meant to be kept as pets. Let the poor thing go out where it belongs. How many pet stores, breedes, etc. promote squirrels as pets. NONE!!!! Let the poor thing go.

This day and time I do not recommend raising squrrels. There is a rabies issue. I raised two and will not do it again. Yes there are fines for doing so, usually 300.00 +. It is best to leave wild animals an birds alone. ....bill C.

Squirrels are a pest / rodent - we have been shooting them for years. They get in to the feed, any reasonably accesable outdoor storage, and even in to houses we have closed up for the season.

Squirrls sure do make good eating. Hunting season is in!!!!!!

Squirrels are nothing but a rat with a bushy long tail. They are destructive in everyway. When in your home attic, they shew on wood and electrical wiring. The only way to control these rodents is by shooting them down or poison

r u talking about flying squirrel, sugar glider, or squirrel? I've had all them anyway! :) lol. I've never had a male who has lasted a being fixed. Only one vet said he'de do it, and he said it wasn't in any book that was tought on such small animals, the side affects he said mite happen, did... :(( it died. I recommend u don't fix him. though, I know they get mean, there's a way that sometimes fixes that! keep away from females, feed organics, and don't feed to little. My next male that i had after that i didn't fix, instead did that and it was, and is a sweet pea! sitting on my shoulder rite now. His name is romeo, and hasn't bit anyone except my friend (wich was poking him and spitting at him) so it should have anyway! lol JK so hope i helped u can e0mail me at sidesadle11@yahoo.com
a while back on the news a lady was fined for keeping wildlife without a permit. u should prolly check your state laws. un less you have a permit. i dont know if there is anything you can really do to prevent his natraul instincts from kicking in.
Let them go! No sense locking up a critter like a squirrel.
