How to feed the squirrels but not the birds?

my friend is trying to figure out how to keep the birds away in his yard but not the squirrels. he thinks the squirrels are cool and doesn't mind feeding them, but anytime a bird comes around they(squirrels) run off. is there any special type of feed that only the squirrels will eat? does anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance! How to feed the squirrels but not the birds?
You can buy special squirrel feeders that use dried corn-on-the-cob. No self respecting bird would be interested. Go halfway down the page on the link I'm providing and you'll see.How to feed the squirrels but not the birds?
cover the squirrel feeder with chicken wire to keep the birds out and leave the bottom open for access for the squirrels. the birds will learn the food is not available to them and stop coming in, also, nuts are a good choice. The birds leave the nuts alone and they provide good food value to the squirrels. peanuts are inexpensive in the shell and watching them crack the shells is fun.
Here at our house the birds and squirrels eat together.

I normally have an area that has corn and sunflower seeds just for the squirrels. They seem to like it.

:-)
Just throw dried ears of corn around the yard. Squirrels will pull the kernels off but birds won't. No feeder needed.
