Baby squirrels can get pretty darn big before they leave Mama. Some birds actually get bigger than their parents before they leave. They slim down later when they do more flying.What was this squirrel doing??

Yes, squirrels are opportunistic eaters, and have been known to be carnivorous (baby birds and worms, for example). Cannibalistic would be even more unusual, but not impossible.

Seriously, they bury their young.
I've seen this happen too, and the squink was a younger squirrel being carried off by its mommy (the smaller one was alive). Squirrels are not carnivorous in that they kill things to eat them, but a lot of urban squirrels are scavengers and will eat just about anything, from leftover chicken to candy bars.
