Because I want to train him to be a hunting dog. Capped one in the back yard and let him go to town on it. My girlfriend is convinced that the squirrel may have had rabies, and may transmit it to the dog, because he hasnt had any of his shots. I see no problem in it. Just an opinionated question...I gave my dog a squirrel...?
You need to learn to train the dog. Are you really going to hunt squirrel? Squirrels carry rabies. Do you want your dog to have them too?? Why haven't you gotten your dogs shots yet? If it's because money you have money for bullets and a gun, is the dog not important or loved enough for it's vaccinations? Forget Rabies for a second.... lets talk about worms. Is it easier for you to ';CAP'; your dog and get a new one you aren't going to take care of
either than have it vaccinated?I gave my dog a squirrel...?
The GF is an IDIOT!
Giving a dog a carcass to rag isn't going to make it a hunting-dog,btw. Introducing to quarry is fine.....continuing to do it just makes a hard-mouth.
You need to SCENT train it.
Wow....every other answer is from IGNORANT AR-brainwashed MORONS!!!!
NO,it does NOT have rabies! It will NOT *GET* rabies!
Keep your imbecility to your infantile selves,eh?
Well, yes the dog can get a host of problems from eating an infected animal. You should have him vaccinated asap. Dogs that are bred to be hunters will not need to be fed a dead squirrel, you should do some research on training. Try Googling!
that is not how you train dogs. yes your dog can have rabies.
That is horrible. Use a toy to start with. The dog could get hurt and not to mention they carry a lot of diseases.
I don't think its such a good idea especially where your dog hasn't had his shots.
Squirrels do carry fleas, i know. And this just sounds cruel to the squirrel.
Jaye
Well normally with our hunting dogs.. we catch or shoot a squirrel or racoon.. skin it.. and just keep the hide for training.. we put it on a fishin line or a rope and have her go to town on it.
I would not suggest actually giving her the alive squirrel unless the squirrel is caged.. or in a spinning cage.
Do not let your dog eat a wild animal.
Also.. get that dog his shots!
