Is it legal to have pet Squirrels in the UK?

The question says it all, theres always someone in the news who has a pet squirrel, and basically I want one.

It could even be the answer to the grey squirrel problem, eradicate them, BUT make it so you can have them as pets or something. Is it legal to have pet Squirrels in the UK?
squirrels are not domesticated animals. there are people who have wolf hybrids as pets and very few people can look after them properly.

don't get any pet until you have done all your research and not until you know you can see to all it's needs.

exotic pets are usually harder to care for and squirrels love to chew. they also need trees to run up and nest in to feel happy. one would probably escape if you did try and keep it as a pet.Is it legal to have pet Squirrels in the UK?
no it is illegal to keep a squirrel or release one without a licence and it is only rescue and rehabilitation centres that can get these licences.

plus these animals belong in the wild and can turn very vicious and nasty when kept as pets even if brought up from juveniles as a pet.

i would advise getting something like a chinchilla if you want one for the cuteness and fluffy tail factor or a gerbil even though the gerbil does not have a big fluffy tail.

hope this helps
Get a dwarf hamster if you do decide to go with a hamster. Unlike Syrian hamsters, they can live in a group, although female chinese dwarf hamsters can be aggressive if kept together. Also the coat of the Dwarf Winter White Hamster turns white in the winter.

Hope this helps a little bit

xx (:
Legal? I don't know but a squirrel in cage would be very unhappy. If you have squirrels in your area just leave food out for them, they'll keep coming back for more. If you don't then find another pet, cats always adapt to a friendly home.
erm... no i have seen some people in the T.V have them! But not from the wild from like a pet shop or something! But i know that USA you can have them i am not to sure, look it up on google!
